Maalaea or Ma’alaea, is a quaint picturesque seaport village located away from the hustle of the busy tourist areas. Maalaea is conveniently located between Lahaina and the Kahululi Airport. Maalaea Bay runs along the south side of the Maui isthmus that separates West Maui from South and East Maui.

Formerly a commercial port with a sleepy little village atmosphere, Maalaea now has a lovely marina for the many cruise and pleasure boats that visit this tropical Hawaiian paradise. Many charters for the best whale watching, scuba diving, sailing, snorkeling, and game fishing leave right from the Maalaea Harbor. The warm waters of the Maalaea Bay are part of the National Humpback Whale Marine Sanctuary.

Surfers can test their skills against the thundering Maalaea Pipeline. Daredevil surfers hoping to catch Freight Train, a fast, hard charging wave that breaks over the shallow reef with sufficient velocity to earn a reputation as the world’s fastest.

Everyone can enjoy the 750,000 gallon Maui Ocean Center Aquarium, the Maui Golf & Water Park, Maui Tropical Plantation, and 3 nearby golf courses – Kahili, King Kamehameha, and the Dunes. You’re never far from great shopping and restaurants.
