Place of Abundance

Makena is located on Maui’s Gold Coast, south of Wailea. Ancient Hawaiians believed in the mythology of Pele the volcano goddess and a beautiful lizard maiden. It was said that Pele became jealous of the lizard maiden sunning herself on the south shore beaches, and spit fire from Haleakala volcano. This split the maiden in half … her head becoming Pu’u Ola’i, and the tail becoming the Molokini islet.

Historically, Makena is the landing point of the first European explorer, French Captain Jean-Francois de la Perouse – thus La Perouse Bay.

Today Makena offers high-end homes, condominiums, and vacant land. Great shopping, golf, spas, and water activities are all nearby.
